It's a typical Florida summer afternoon. The air is sticky and hot, the threat of rain looming in the clouds. We pray it away as we walk into the fellowship hall of the First Church of God in Middleburg, FL. Friends and family are buzzing everywhere. Last minute touches are being added.
We find Winston dressed to the nines in his crisp white suit with the biggest smile on his face. He immediately stops what he's doing to welcome us and show us around. He points me in the direction of Shelby, who is getting ready in the nursery. As I enter through the doorway, I am greeted with a cheerful "Hey Rebekah!" and Shelby's million dollar smile. These first interactions with our couple on their wedding day are a testament to who they genuinely are.
Winston is a stop-what-he's-doing-to-help type of guy. His service to others is shown through his actions. When a little girl falls and scrapes her knee, it is Winston who rushes to pick her up without a second thought about his clean suit. Shelby is warm and nurturing by nature. Her smile can light up a room, and her laughter could start a whole new pandemic with how contagious it is.
They are a match made in heaven.
Winston's mom helps him with his cufflinks and tie, while in the nursery, Shelby's mom helps her add the final touches to her dress.
The ceremony begins and the sounds of Over the Rainbow by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole are heard through the sanctuary. The most adorable flower girl and ring bearer come down the aisle together. The crowd rises, and Shelby is escorted down the aisle by her dad.
Winston and Shelby join together in a unique and beautiful foot washing ceremony. By doing this, they imitate the humility and selfless love of Jesus. It is truly such a beautiful sight to witness.
After a message by the pastor, the ceremony comes to a close and they are pronounced husband and wife.
The rain holds off until everyone is inside of the reception, and then the heavens open up. The new Mr. and Mrs. take their places beside each other, and the rest is history.
